What a content gap is
A content gap is a topic your competitors have a page on and you do not. Every one is a set of searches you cannot win however good the rest of your site is, because there is no page to rank, and when two competitors have both written about the same topic it is often because it brings them visits. Gaps also hide inside pages you already have, where a competitor’s page on the same subject covers points yours leaves out.
How it compares pages
The tool reads each site from its sitemaps first, up to 100 pages each, and leaves out the pages that are about the site rather than a topic: the home page, contact, legal, tag and category pages, and anything under 150 words. It then compares the title and main heading of every competitor page with yours using an AI embedding model, which reads meaning rather than matching words, so “washing trainers” and “how to clean running shoes” count as the same topic. Where both sites have a page on a topic, it compares their section headings the same way to find the sections yours lacks.
The model runs on Cloudflare’s own servers (Workers AI), and only page titles and headings from public pages are sent to it. Cloudflare does not use what it receives to train models.
How it differs from tools built on paid data
Tools that pay for search data start from the searches a competitor ranks for and you do not, with the number of searches behind each one. This tool has no search data, so it compares the pages themselves. A topic a competitor wrote about is not proof that people search for it, so check that a topic has demand before you write a page on it.
Your report and your data
The check is free. It asks for your email address before it runs, and you only join the mailing list if you tick the box. Pages are read by EghosaBot, which obeys each site’s robots.txt and Crawl-delay setting. Each report has its own private link, which works for 90 days and is then deleted along with everything the check gathered. The privacy policy explains the rest.
