Privacy Policy

This page explains what happens to your information on eghosa.me, which is run by Fredrick Eghosa in Lagos, Nigeria. It is written to be read rather than skimmed past, because if you give me your email address you should know exactly what I do with it.

When you download a checklist

Some guides on this site offer a free checklist that you get by entering your email address. When you do, I store your email address, the name of the download you asked for, the page the form was on, the date, and whether you ticked the box asking for occasional emails. Your email address is used to give you the download, and if you leave that box unticked, that is all it is used for.

If you tick the box, I may also send you occasional emails about SEO, with each one carrying a way to unsubscribe. I never assume you agreed, and asking for a second download does not switch the box on for you.

To stop automated abuse of the form, the site briefly records a scrambled (one-way hashed) version of your connection's address so it can limit how many requests come from one place. That record cannot be turned back into your address, and it is deleted within a day.

When you browse the site

The site uses Google Analytics to count visits and see which pages are read, which means Google sets cookies in your browser and receives information such as the pages you view, your approximate location and your device type. You can block those cookies in your browser settings, or with Google's opt-out add-on, and the site keeps working without them. Videos are embedded through YouTube's privacy-enhanced mode, so YouTube does not set cookies until you press play.

Where your information is kept, and who else sees it

Your email address and download details are stored with Cloudflare, which hosts this site, and analytics data is held by Google. Both act as processors on my behalf. I do not sell, rent or trade your information, and I do not hand it to anyone else for their own marketing.

How long it is kept

I keep your email address until you ask me to delete it. If you ticked the box for emails and later unsubscribe, I keep a note of that so you are not emailed again.

Your rights

Under the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023, and the GDPR if you are in the UK or the European Union, you can ask to see the information I hold about you, have it corrected, have it deleted, or withdraw your consent to emails at any time. Withdrawing consent does not affect anything sent before you did so. To do any of these, email fredrick@eghosa.me from the address in question, and I will act on it within 30 days.

If you are unhappy with how your information has been handled, you can also complain to the Nigeria Data Protection Commission, or to the data protection authority where you live.

Changes to this page
