Zapier's search traffic is up 59%, but ChatGPT's first pick for automation was Make

Zapier is growing on Google and ChatGPT calls it the easiest tool to learn, but it shared the top AI spot with Make, and its Trustpilot score is 1.3.

The short version

  • DataForSEO estimates Zapier's US search visits at 1.8 million in September 2026, up 59% on a year earlier.
  • Asked for the best tool to automate workflows between apps, ChatGPT recommended Make first and called Zapier the easiest to learn. Asked how to connect a CRM, email and spreadsheets without coding, it put Zapier first.
  • Zapier holds 4.5 on G2 from about 2,000 reviews but 1.3 on Trustpilot from 322.

How Zapier shows up on Google

DataForSEO counts about 197,000 keywords that Zapier ranks for in US Google results, about 81,000 of them on the first page and about 18,000 in the top three. That comes to an estimated 1.8 million visits a month from US search, with a backlink rank of 76 out of 100.

What ChatGPT says

This is the one brand in the series that ChatGPT didn't put first both times. Asked "What is the best tool to automate workflows between apps?", it said it would "recommend Make for the best balance of power, flexibility, and cost," and added: "If you want the easiest tool to learn, choose Zapier." Asked "Which app should I use to connect my CRM, email and spreadsheets without coding?", it listed Zapier first, as "Best for beginners." So Zapier owns the beginner's question, and Make is being recommended for the broader one.

What customers say

On G2, Zapier averages 4.5 out of 5 from about 2,000 reviews (the count varies between G2's pages, from about 1,800 to 2,085). On Trustpilot it averages 1.3 from 322 reviews. Both numbers are real, which is why this teardown grades the two together rather than picking the kinder one.

The trend

DataForSEO estimates Zapier's US search visits at about 1.14 million in September 2025 and 1.82 million in September 2026, a 59% rise. The series also shows a one-month spike to about 2.95 million in October 2025, which fell back the next month, so the steady year-on-year rise is the better guide than any single month. These are modeled estimates rather than Zapier's own analytics.

Steal this

What Zapier teaches, written so you can use it on your own business.

  1. Own a label, then defend it. ChatGPT calls Zapier "Best for beginners," which wins the first-time buyer, but the broader question went to Make. Decide which question you want to be the answer to and build pages for it.
  2. Read both review sites. A 4.5 on G2 and a 1.3 on Trustpilot describe different customers, and the unhappy ones are the ones a prospect may find first.
  3. Growth deserves a second look before it's celebrated. One October spike nearly tripled the estimate before falling back, so judge a trend by the year, not the best month.

How I graded this

Brand
Zapier
Data as of
October 9, 2026
Method
Data gathered October 9, 2026, through the DataForSEO API, for Google in the United States in English. SEO uses DataForSEO's domain overview (keywords ranking in Google's top 10 and top 3, and estimated monthly organic visits) and its backlink rank on a 100-point scale. AI search asks ChatGPT two questions a buyer in the brand's category would ask, through DataForSEO's ChatGPT scraper, and grades whether the brand is named and where it appears. Reviews read the brand's Trustpilot score and review count, gathered through DataForSEO, beside its G2 rating as G2's own listings show it in search results, because the two sites draw different reviewers and a business tool's scores on them can differ sharply. Growth compares DataForSEO's estimate of US organic search visits in September 2026 with September 2025. Those traffic figures are DataForSEO's modeled estimates, not the brand's own analytics, and two prompts are a small sample of what ChatGPT says. Grades run from A (leading its category) through C (ordinary for a brand of this size) to F (a clear weakness).
