ChatGPT picks HubSpot first, but its estimated Google traffic fell 41% in a year

HubSpot is ChatGPT's first answer for small-business CRM and marketing automation, but DataForSEO estimates its US search visits fell 41% in a year.

Request a teardown

The short version

  • Asked for the best CRM for small businesses, ChatGPT started with HubSpot and labeled it "Best overall." It did the same for marketing automation.
  • On G2, HubSpot Sales Hub holds 4.4 from about 13,300 reviews. On Trustpilot, HubSpot holds 1.5 from 1,178.
  • DataForSEO estimates HubSpot's US search visits at about 587,000 in September 2026, down 41% from about 994,000 a year earlier.

How HubSpot shows up on Google

DataForSEO counts about 310,000 keywords that HubSpot ranks for in US Google results, about 50,000 of them on the first page and about 13,000 in the top three. Its backlink rank is 88 out of 100. DataForSEO's model puts its US search visits at about 587,000 a month, a figure two separate DataForSEO endpoints agreed on, though it is an estimate rather than HubSpot's own analytics.

What ChatGPT says

Asked "What is the best CRM for small businesses?", ChatGPT said it would start with "HubSpot, Zoho CRM, and Pipedrive" and listed HubSpot CRM first as "Best overall." Asked "Which marketing automation platform should a growing company use?", it said its "general recommendation is to start with HubSpot" and again listed it first. Both times it also attached a cost warning to HubSpot: that "paid features can become expensive as your needs grow," and that "Advanced automation can get expensive."

What customers say

On G2, HubSpot Sales Hub averages 4.4 out of 5 from about 13,300 reviews. On Trustpilot, HubSpot averages 1.5 out of 5 from 1,178 reviews. The G2 base is more than ten times larger, which is why the grade leans toward it, but a 1.5 on the open review site is still a weakness a buyer can find.

The number to watch

DataForSEO estimates HubSpot's US search visits at about 994,000 in September 2025 and about 587,000 in September 2026, a fall of 41%. These are modeled estimates, and they don't say which pages or keywords lost visibility, so this teardown doesn't claim a cause. It is still the largest gap in this series between how strongly an AI assistant recommends a brand and how its estimated search traffic is moving.

Steal this

What HubSpot teaches, written so you can use it on your own business.

  1. AI recommendations and search traffic can move separately. ChatGPT put HubSpot first twice while its estimated Google visits fell by two-fifths, so measure both rather than assuming one predicts the other.
  2. Earn the caveat away. ChatGPT attached a cost warning to HubSpot in both answers. If an assistant keeps attaching the same objection to your name, answer it on your own pages.
  3. A high G2 score doesn't cancel a low Trustpilot score. Buyers find both, so it's worth managing both.

How I graded this

Brand
HubSpot
Data as of
October 9, 2026
Method
Data gathered October 9, 2026, through the DataForSEO API, for Google in the United States in English. SEO uses DataForSEO's domain overview (keywords ranking in Google's top 10 and top 3, and estimated monthly organic visits) and its backlink rank on a 100-point scale. AI search asks ChatGPT two questions a buyer in the brand's category would ask, through DataForSEO's ChatGPT scraper, and grades whether the brand is named and where it appears. Reviews read the brand's Trustpilot score and review count, gathered through DataForSEO, beside its G2 rating as G2's own listings show it in search results, because the two sites draw different reviewers and a business tool's scores on them can differ sharply. Growth compares DataForSEO's estimate of US organic search visits in September 2026 with September 2025. Those traffic figures are DataForSEO's modeled estimates, not the brand's own analytics, and two prompts are a small sample of what ChatGPT says. Grades run from A (leading its category) through C (ordinary for a brand of this size) to F (a clear weakness).
My relationship with HubSpot
I have no relationship with HubSpot. It is not a client, partner or affiliate of mine, I hold no investment in it, and nobody paid for this teardown.
